In 2007 more than 6.4 million foreigners visited South Korea, making it the 36th most visited nation on the planet. The industry is primarily supported by domestic tourism; however, Korea’s dramatic rise to regional economic power has resulted in substantial increases to the foreign tourism market in recent years. Most foreign tourists arrive from other countries in the region such as China, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan which account for 75% of foreign visitors. Visitors from North America and Europe constitute a growing segment of South Korea’s tourism industry; a trend that will likely continue in the decades to come. Korea’s extensive network of high speed trains and buses make most festivals and events extremely easy to access regardless of location.
The Korean Tourism Organization is the official tourism site that’s supported and financed by the Korean government. It’s a great site that’s constantly being updated with upcoming festivals, events and travel packages around the country.
