Meeting people in Korea is very easy provided you are proactive about doing so. In most cases there will be a moderate to large community of other westerners living and working in the same area/city as you. Of course this will be largely determined by the size of the city/town you are working in and the specific area of that city/town you are located. In order to meet other westerners in your community, aside from the potential westerners that are working at the same school as you, (private sector only), you will need to visit areas and places where westerners generally congregate. These areas could include bars, cafes, sporting facilities, clubs, grocery stores that sell western products and so on. The more effort you put into meeting others, the stronger the liklihood of meeting like minded people and the more likely you will make long standing friendships. Generally speaking, we have found that the teachers that make an effort to meet others tend to have a much more enjoyable overall experience during their time in Korea than those that don't .We really recommend that you try to be social outside of your working environement. Aside from the areas listed above, there are many online services to help meet people in Korea. |
